Chalok Baan Kao's southern-coast setting gives you access to small bays and nearby beaches as well as the village's diving scene.

Arrival on Koh Tao is by ferry at Mae Haad, as the island has no airport. Lomprayah Koh Tao Pier is 1.5 km from the hostel; from the pier, island pickup taxis run towards Chalok Baan Kao, and the hostel also offers a shuttle service. Free private parking is available on site, and bicycle rental provides another way to travel between the south-coast villages. Samui International Airport is 62.1 km away and Chumphon Airport is 86.9 km away, but reaching Koh Tao from either airport requires a ferry crossing.

Snorkelling and diving are among the main ways to explore Koh Tao's reefs. Ao Thian is 800 m away and Ao Leuk is 1000 m away; Sun Suwan Viewpoint is 1.1 km away, looking across the southern bays. Shark Bay and Haad Sai Daeng are known for shallow-water sightings of blacktip reef sharks and turtles. South and west coast conditions are generally calmer from November to March, while rougher seas are more common from October to December. Whale sharks are seen most often around March to May and September to October.
